The idea of drilling a water well on your property can be intimidating, and it’s always best to take advantage of the tools and knowledge that an experienced well-driller has to offer. Here are answers to some of the most common well drilling questions we get here at Domer’s.
How do I determine where to drill?
When choosing a drill site, a number of factors come into consideration. The drilling equipment has to be able to access the drill site, and with some rigs being over 40 feet tall, trees, power lines, and other geography will need to be considered. The geology, hydrogeology, and landscape of the area will need to be taken into account as well, which is why it’s always best to consult with a professional service like Domer’s when choosing where to put your well.
How deep will my well be?
This is perhaps the most common question we hear about wells, and it’s the hardest to answer. Underground water is pumped from aquifers, and just like a surface landscape, the elevation and depth of those aquifers vary depending on location. Because the size of underground aquifers varies so much, we have to drill until a reliable water supply is reached, and there’s no way to predetermine that.
Can you determine the amount or quality of the water?
Water quantity and quality of water can only be determined after your well has been drilled and equipment installed. Your water quality is easily tested with a simple water test.
What size pump will my well need?
This is highly dependent on the flow rate, depth, and static level of your well. When you combine these variables, your contractor will be able to recommend an appropriate pump and equipment to suit your needs.
Because of the complex nature of well drilling, you should rely on a contractor with a wealth of experience not only in well drilling but in the area which you will be drilling as well.
