Here at Domer’s Inc., we pride ourselves on having an extensive knowledge of all things related to metalwork. Although we are based in Okeechobee, Florida, our goal is to provide high-quality products and services to cities throughout the state of Florida, including the Heartland area. Here are some facts about the types of metals we offer, their differences in quality and composition, and a list of the metal related products that are for sale.
Types of Metal for Sale at Domer’s
Galvanized Pipe – As a result of its low cost, and anti-corrosive/rusting capabilities, Galvanized pipe is the perfect metal for indoor and outdoor environments where the elements are particularly testing. This type of pipe is typically used in situations where heavy contact with water is likely. Due to having an outer covering of zinc, chemical reactions often occur when this zinc is combined with Carbon Dioxide or oxygen. Zinc plus Carbon Dioxide forms zinc carbonate. Zinc plus oxygen forms zinc oxide. These chemical bindings form an anti-corrosive/anti-rusting coating on the outermost layer of the pipe. Due to this, Galvanized Pipe has the potential to last for very long periods of time.
Brass – Brass is an anti-corrosive, malleable, and strong metal that is typically used for tubes and fire station poles. Comprised of 33.5 percent zinc, 0.5 percent lead, and 66 percent copper, brass is a great, reliable metal that is not used much in applications besides creating tubes. Welding with this metal is not recommended due to the amount of lead in its composition.
Aluminum Alloy – Aluminum metal, at its most basic level, is a very “soft and lightweight” material. To improve its properties, aluminum is often mixed with zinc, tin, magnesium or copper. Each one of these metals has varying impacts on how strong the resulting aluminum alloy will be. Aluminum alloys are highly malleable as a result of aluminum’s weaker nature, which makes it the perfect metal for projects that require a good amount of bending. The cost of items comprised of aluminum alloys is also significantly cheaper, as these alloys are relatively easier to produce. Aluminum alloys are most commonly utilized in building ships, equipment related to the aerospace field, and many more professions.
Stainless Steel – Stainless steel is commonly used in motor vehicles, for everyday appliances, in the aerospace industry and for bridges and other infrastructure related projects. This alloy is created when at least 10.5% of chromium is mixed with iron. Stainless steel is used quite often due to its appealing visuals, its rust/corrosion resistance, and its insulating properties.
Carbon Steel – Carbon Steel is most often used to create blades, load-bearing wire, springs, and for automotive purposes. This alloy is created when impure carbon is mixed with iron. The carbon makes up, at most two percent of the resulting alloy. When the amount of carbon added exceeds this two percent, the strength and hardness of the carbon steel increases, and the melting point and malleability decrease. As a result of this increase, the final alloy is more likely to fracture.
