Freeze Branding Cattle Irons
Originally developed in 1966, freeze branding has become an increasingly popular alternative to traditional branding for marking cattle and other animals for identification.
Freeze branding is essentially painless and permanently distinguishes animals to a specific owner. It does this by using liquid nitrogen or dry ice to chill a specially-made branding iron so cold that it can remove pigmentation from the animal’s hair, or remove the hair altogether.
The iron is chilled to a temperature ranging from -160 degrees to -250 degrees Celsius, then pressed onto a shaved area of skin. After branding, the skin will be inflamed for a short time, but heals within days. Once the hair grows back, it has no pigment indefinitely, making this a great option for animals who shed their coats.
The Highest Quality Freeze Brands
The freeze brands we use at Domer’s are made of a special copper alloy that is able to withstand and hold the extreme temperatures required to quickly and effectively freeze brand an animal.
