With how eventful 2018 has been so far, this first quarter of the year has flown by. The beginning of the second quarter of the year is always special to us though, because we kick it off by celebrating National Welding Month! The month of April is all about shining the spotlight on the welding industry, improving it, and inspiring a new generation of welders. Interested in helping? Here are some tips you can use to help you celebrate and spread awareness this month!
Become a Mentor
With the wealth of resources available to welders just getting into the industry, none are as valuable as the insight available from those who have been in their position and overcome the hurdles that lay ahead of them. April is a great month to reach out to a local welding student or a newcomer at your company and help them develop the skills to become the best they can be. That tip on how to tackle a particularly tough job, or extra bit of encouragement when things don’t go right might be that extra push they need to make it to the next level in their career.
Emphasize the Value of the Trade
Welding is one of those trades that many people don’t notice on a daily basis, even though it is a critical component in nearly everything we use. But because of that perception, some stigmatize important trades like welding. Make a point of explaining the importance of skilled trades, and do your part to change the attitudes of those who are just starting out – the next generation is key to making sure welding thrives.
Set an Example
The best way to impact the industry in a way that will last is to set a positive example for others to follow. The best ways to make that example known is to give back to the industry. Is there a local welding apprenticeship program that could use some assistance? Does the local Scouts den need an extra set of hands with helping youngsters get their welding merit badge? Giving back to your local community helps support the welding industry as a whole.
Remember, National Welding Month is all about celebrating welding and other skilled trades. Take this time to make a positive impact, but have fun doing it and remember Domer’s as your go-to source for all your welding needs!
